Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
Cost Analysis:
Analyze and determine the cost of production, including materials, labor, and overheads.
Monitor and report on production costs, identifying variances from budgeted costs and providing insights into areas for improvement.
Review financial records, assess cost allocation, and perform cost-benefit analysis to ensure effective resource utilization.
Cost Reporting:
Prepare detailed cost reports, including cost of goods sold (COGS), labor costs, materials costs, and overheads.
Provide regular cost analysis reports to senior management, highlighting key trends and variances.
Assist in the preparation of internal and external financial reports as required.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
Assist in the development and preparation of annual budgets, working closely with different departments to ensure that cost estimates are accurate.
Develop cost forecasts for production and other areas, helping management plan for future needs and changes.
Monitor and adjust forecasts as necessary based on actual data and trends.
Inventory and Cost Control:
Track inventory levels and assess the costs associated with stock, including raw materials, work-in-progress (WIP), and finished goods.
Implement cost control measures and identify opportunities to reduce waste, optimize resources, and enhance profitability.
Conduct regular physical inventory counts, reconciling discrepancies between physical counts and financial records.
Process Improvement:
Collaborate with other departments (e.g., production, procurement) to improve cost efficiency and processes.
Suggest cost-saving strategies and efficiencies in the production process and other operational activities.
Analyze production methods and suggest improvements to reduce costs while maintaining quality.
Cost Systems Maintenance:
Maintain and update the company’s cost accounting systems, ensuring they are accurate and reliable.
Ensure all costs are recorded correctly in the accounting system.
Work with IT to implement software and tools that enhance cost tracking and reporting.
Compliance & Audit:
Ensure that cost accounting practices are in compliance with company policies and relevant accounting standards.
Assist in internal and external audits by providing necessary data and explanations related to cost structures and financial reports.
Ensure compliance with tax regulations and assist in preparing necessary documents for tax purposes.
Support and Advisory:
Provide financial analysis and support to management for pricing, budgeting, and cost control decisions.
Advise on cost-effective measures for product pricing and profitability analysis.
Assist department heads in understanding cost behaviors and financial impacts on operations.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Experience:
Minimum 3-5 years of experience in cost accounting, financial analysis, or a similar role.
Experience in a manufacturing or production environment is highly preferred.
Skills:
Strong understanding of cost accounting principles, inventory management, and budgeting techniques.
Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel (advanced level).
Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and identify trends.
Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to meet deadlines.
Good communication skills and ability to work with cross-functional teams.
Desirable:
CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or CMA (Certified Management Accountant) certification.
Familiarity with ERP systems and cost accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle).
Knowledge of industry-specific cost structures and financial standards.
