Job Description
Key responsibilities:
Team Management:
Lead and supervise a team of IP DRG coders, assigning tasks, monitoring workload distribution, and ensuring team efficiency.
Conduct performance reviews, provide feedback, and identify training needs for team members.
Motivate and develop team members to achieve individual and team goals.
Coding Accuracy and Compliance:
Ensure accurate assignment of IP DRG codes based on patient medical records, adhering to all coding guidelines and regulations.
Conduct regular quality audits of coded records to identify potential errors and address coding discrepancies.
Stay updated on coding updates, changes in DRG classifications, and industry standards.
Training and Development:
Provide ongoing training to team members on new coding guidelines, complex coding scenarios, and best practices.
Onboard new coders, ensuring they are familiar with the coding process and internal systems.
Clinical Collaboration:
Collaborate with clinical staff (physicians, nurses) to clarify documentation and ensure accurate coding based on patient clinical information.
Address coding queries from clinical staff and provide coding guidance when needed.
Performance Monitoring and Reporting:
Track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to coding accuracy, productivity, and compliance.
Analyze coding data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
Generate reports on team performance and coding metrics to stakeholders.
Operational Efficiency:
Identify and implement process improvements to optimize coding workflow and efficiency.
Manage coding backlogs and ensure timely completion of coding assignments.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Certified Coder Credentials: Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or equivalent certification with specialized knowledge in inpatient coding (CCS-P preferred)
In-depth understanding of IP DRG coding guidelines and methodologies
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Leadership experience and ability to manage a team
Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) systems and coding software
