Inpatient Medical Coder

Job Summary:
We’re seeking an experienced Inpatient Medical Coder to join our team. The ideal candidate has strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS, and is capable of abstracting, coding, and sequencing diagnoses and procedures from patient medical records. This role requires a high level of accuracy and compliance with federal and state coding guidelines, including AHA Coding Clinics. A minimum coding quality score of 95% is expected.

Key Responsibilities:

Code inpatient and day surgery cases, assigning accurate ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and DRG codes.

Review provider documentation for accurate coding of diagnoses, comorbidities, complications, and procedures.

Assign Present on Admission (POA) indicators and ensure DRG accuracy.

Perform coding compliance reviews and create provider queries when needed.

Enter codes into encoder and abstracting systems and report daily productivity.

Identify and escalate documentation and coding issues as necessary.

Maintain patient record confidentiality at all times.

Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Medical Records, Allied Medical Field, or equivalent clinical experience.

Experience: At least 1 year of acute care or clinic coding experience (6+ months live client work).

Certifications:

AAPC (CPC, COC, CIC) or

AHIMA (CCA, CCS, CCS-P) — Certification requirement may vary per client.

Skills:

Strong knowledge of ICD-10 coding, MS DRGs, encoder systems, and medical terminology.

Analytical and detail-oriented with excellent English communication and customer service skills.
