Quantity Engineer

JOB SUMMARY:

The Quantity Engineer is responsible for managing and estimating project costs, tracking material quantities, preparing bills of quantities, and assisting with budget control throughout the lifecycle of a construction project. The role involves collaboration with engineers, project managers, procurement teams, and subcontractors to ensure accurate quantity takeoffs and cost efficiency.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs from drawings, specifications, and other construction documents.
- Assist in preparing and reviewing Bills of Quantities (BOQ) and material schedules.
- Monitor and track material usage, wastage, and stock levels on-site.
- Coordinate with site engineers to verify actual work done for monthly billing and progress claims.
- Support in cost estimation, budgeting, and tendering processes.
- Conduct rate analysis for materials, labor, and equipment.
- Assist in variation orders, change requests, and preparation of cost impact reports.
- Work closely with procurement for material requisition and supplier/subcontractor quantity validation.
- Help maintain cost databases and regularly update them with actual costs.
- Provide support in project planning, resource allocation, and progress tracking.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or related field.
- 5 to 10 years of experience in a similar role (more for senior roles).
- Familiarity with construction methods, materials, and procedures.
- Proficient in software such as AutoCAD, MS Excel, MS Project, and Quantity Takeoff tools (e.g., PlanSwift, Bluebeam, Candy, etc.).
- Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and documentation abilities.
- Effective communication and team collaboration skills.

PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS:
- Certification in Cost Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or PMP is a plus.
