Job Description

Responsible for overseeing the maintenance, repair, and servicing of all company vehicles and mechanical equipment. This leadership role ensures that all operations are performed efficiently, safely, and in compliance with regulatory standards. The Chief Mechanic supervises a team of mechanics and ensures optimal performance of the fleet to support company operations.

Key Responsibilities:
Supervise and lead the mechanical team in daily maintenance and repair tasks.
Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues on vehicles and equipment.
Schedule and oversee preventive maintenance and servicing of fleet vehicles.

Ensure all vehicles meet safety and roadworthiness standards.
Maintain accurate maintenance records and service logs.
Coordinate with the procurement team for spare parts and supplies.

Train, mentor, and evaluate junior mechanics.
Implement and maintain safety protocols within the workshop.
Recommend improvements to maintenance procedures and fleet management strategies.
Liaise with operations and dispatch teams regarding vehicle availability and readiness.
Monitor costs and work within maintenance budgets.

Ensure compliance with government regulations and company policies.

Qualifications:
Proven experience as a senior mechanic or in a similar supervisory role.

Vocational or technical certification in automotive or diesel mechanics; bachelor’s degree is a plus.

Strong knowledge of vehicle diagnostic systems and methods.

Leadership and team management skills.

Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

Proficiency with maintenance management systems and documentation.
Familiarity with safety and environmental regulations.
Physically fit and capable of working in challenging environments.
