Job Description
Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy
Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
Law degree (LLB/JD) or being a licensed attorney is an advantage
Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience with a Big Four or reputable tax services firm
At least 5 years of experience in tax practice
Minimum of 2 years in a managerial role
Proven background in tax compliance reviews, tax assessments, and advisory services
Strong knowledge of applicable tax laws and regulation
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
Preferred Skills
Excellent communication and leadership capabilities
High attention to detail with a strong commitment to accuracy
Outstanding organizational skills and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively
Key Responsibilities
1. Statutory Tax Filing and Payments
Ensure timely and accurate filing of tax returns and payment of applicable taxes.
1.1. Review tax returns and computations before submission
1.2. Coordinate with relevant departments to secure funding
1.3. Monitor compliance with monthly, quarterly, and annual tax filing requirements
2. Payment of Local Business and Real Property Taxes
Guarantee that payments align with current tax regulations and are reasonably assessed.
2.1. Enforce adherence to internal policies for consistent local tax payments
2.2. Collaborate with the Accounting and Permits & Licensing departments
2.3. Review supporting documents and computations prior to processing
2.4. Obtain management approval for all local tax payments
3. Tax Compliance Review
Oversee compliance of the organization with all applicable tax laws, rules, and regulations.
3.1. Develop and implement a comprehensive tax risk assessment and review strategy
3.2. Conduct kickoff meetings with target SBUs (Strategic Business Units)
3.3. Perform audit procedures and draft reports with recommendations, based on scope and complexity
3.4. Present findings and recommendations to SBU management
3.5. Track the implementation and effectiveness of recommended actions
4. Tax Assessments
Manage and respond to tax assessments, including disputes and resolutions.
4.1. Liaise with tax authorities on assessments
4.2. Review documentation before submission
4.3. Analyze findings and identify initial defenses or reconciling items
4.4. Draft and finalize position papers
4.5. Secure approval for any tax deficiency payments
5. Internal Tax Advisory and Support
Deliver tax advisory services and support to various business units.
5.1. Conduct preliminary assessments of tax inquiries or requests
5.2. Assign tasks or prepare deliverables, depending on the complexity
5.3. Review and finalize responses or written advice before dissemination
6. Process Improvements
Lead initiatives to streamline processes, minimize errors, and enhance tax compliance.
6.1. Assess current practices, particularly where issues have been identified
6.2. Propose and design efficient, cost-effective process improvements or automations
6.3. Report proposed changes to the Manager and obtain required approvals
6.4. Oversee implementation, change management, and testing
6.5. Communicate process changes to affected business units and monitor compliance
6.6. Finalize and document all process improvements
