Job Description

Substation Engineer (Solar Power Plant)
Position Type: Project-Based Employment
Location: Nueva Ecija (Primary Site), Ortigas, Pasig (Office-based Work)
Reports to: Project Manager / Site Manager

Job Summary:Our client is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Substation Engineer to join our team for a solar power plant project. The ideal candidate will have experience in electrical systems, specifically in substations, and will be responsible for the design, installation, testing, and maintenance of substation equipment. As a project-based role, the engineer will primarily work at the solar power plant site in Nueva Ecija, with occasional visits to the office in Ortigas, Pasig for administrative tasks and coordination.

Key Responsibilities:

Design and review electrical layouts for substations in solar power plants, ensuring compliance with local standards and safety regulations.

Conduct site assessments, provide recommendations for equipment, and oversee the construction and installation of substation equipment.

Supervise the installation, testing, and commissioning of electrical systems within the substation.

Perform regular maintenance and troubleshooting of substation equipment to ensure optimum performance.

Review project specifications and drawings, ensuring timely and accurate implementation.

Coordinate with other engineers, contractors, and suppliers to ensure the successful completion of substation work within the scope, budget, and schedule.

Conduct inspections and ensure all work complies with safety protocols and industry standards.

Provide technical support and solutions during the project and operational phases.

Prepare reports, including progress, testing, and commissioning results, and present them to stakeholders.

Assist in managing project risks and recommend mitigation strategies.

Ensure quality control and project documentation is maintained throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BS EE) from a recognized university.

Experience:

At least 3-5 years of experience in substation engineering or electrical systems, preferably with a focus on renewable energy or solar power plants.

Experience in designing, installing, and commissioning electrical substations is highly preferred.

Knowledge of solar power plant integration with substations is a plus.

Licenses/Certifications:

Registered Electrical Engineer (REE) is required.

Additional certifications in electrical safety, renewable energy, or project management (e.g., PMP) are advantageous.

Skills:

Strong knowledge of electrical design software (e.g., AutoCAD, ETAP, or other electrical modeling tools).

Proficiency in electrical schematics, design, and electrical system protection schemes.

Familiarity with local and international standards for substations and renewable energy.

Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex electrical systems.

Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a project-based environment.

Excellent communication and coordination skills, with the ability to interact with various stakeholders and teams.

Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures related to electrical installations and substations.

Work Conditions:

The position requires frequent travel to the solar power plant site in Nueva Ecija.

Willingness to work on-site for project-based tasks, with occasional office work at Ortigas, Pasig.

Flexibility in working hours may be required to meet project deadlines.
