A truck driver's job is to transport goods and materials to various locations. This involves driving a truck, loading and unloading cargo, and ensuring the safety of the cargo and the truck.
Responsibilities
Driving: Safely operate a truck and follow traffic laws
Loading and unloading: Use lifting devices to load and unload cargo
Securing cargo: Ensure cargo is properly balanced and secured
Route planning: Use a GPS to plan routes and meet delivery schedules
Vehicle maintenance: Perform daily maintenance, such as refueling and cleaning
Vehicle inspection: Perform pre- and post-trip inspections to identify mechanical issues
Documentation: Maintain logs, timesheets, and records of safety incidents
Communication: Coordinate with dispatchers and interact with customers
Reporting: Report accidents, defects, and violations
Schedule
Truck drivers may work long-distance or deliver the same goods to the same places daily
The normal schedule is determined after training and may be flexible to meet the needs of the company and customers
