Job Description

A kitchen supervisor plays a crucial role in managing the kitchen operations within a restaurant, ensuring food is prepared to the highest standards, maintaining cleanliness, and overseeing kitchen staff. They support the head chef or kitchen manager and ensure smooth, efficient service in the kitchen during busy periods.

Key Responsibilities:
Staff Supervision and Training:

Supervise and manage kitchen staff, including cooks, chefs, dishwashers, and kitchen assistants.
Train new staff on kitchen procedures, food safety standards, and specific cooking techniques.
Ensure staff are working efficiently and maintaining proper work ethics and cleanliness.
Food Preparation and Quality Control:

Oversee food preparation, ensuring that dishes are prepared correctly, consistently, and in line with the restaurant's menu standards.
Ensure food quality is maintained throughout the shift and resolve any issues that arise with food production.
Monitor portion control, presentation, and quality of dishes before they are sent to customers.
Inventory Management:

Assist in managing inventory levels for food, equipment, and cleaning supplies.
Ensure the kitchen is stocked with necessary ingredients and that supplies are ordered when running low.
Keep track of food waste and work with the kitchen manager to reduce costs and ensure optimal inventory management.
Health and Safety Compliance:

Enforce health and safety regulations in the kitchen, including food safety, sanitation, and hygiene.
Ensure all kitchen staff are trained and comply with safety practices such as proper food storage, handling, and temperature control.
Oversee the cleaning of kitchen equipment, utensils, and workstations to meet sanitation standards.
Coordination and Communication:

Communicate effectively with other departments (e.g., front-of-house staff) to ensure orders are prepared on time and meet customer expectations.
Ensure that kitchen staff are aware of the restaurant's special menu items, daily specials, and any changes to the menu.
