Job Description

2.1 Welds metal parts as specified by layouts, diagrams, and work orders, on oral instructions using electric arc or gas welding equipment.
2.2 Starts power supply and adjusts equipment to get desired amperage from unit to get the proper gas mixture based on type and thickness of metal and specified bead.
2.3 Guides electrodes, filler rods or flux along weld lines and examines for size of bead and penetration.
2.4 Tack welds, assembles together and may weld along vertical or overhead weld lines.
2.5 Grinds and chips-off excess weld, slag or splatter.
2.6 Performs cutting and brazing operations.
2.7 Conducts visual inspection and performs non-destructive/destructive tests of welds for possible defects.
2.8 Maintains cleanliness and proper utilization and safekeeping of machines, tools and equipment issued; reports any malfunctioning or need for repairs of these.
2.9 Observes and maintains the cleanliness and good housekeeping practices of his work area and its immediate surroundings.
2.10 Exercises safety precautions before, during and after welding jobs.
2.11 Performs other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned; such as shipfitting, pipefitting, cleaning works etc.
