Data Engineer

Function:

The Data Engineer is responsible for the implementation and maintenance of enterprise data assets and the optimal technology supporting the data life cycle (e.g., pipeline architecture, data ingestion pipeline, data lake, data warehouse).

Responsibilities:

Data Management:
Maintain and monitor uptime and reliability of the Thermal Group’s internal data sets.
Develop quality and reliability data structures for on-premises and cloud-based data sources (e.g., database server, data lake, warehouse).
Recommend infrastructure for optimal data extraction, transformation, and loading from various sources.
Develop and implement Governance Framework (Policies, Standards, Roles) for data analytics.
Collaboration and Optimization:

Optimize implementation of Data Analytics tools and solutions in collaboration with subject matter experts.
Collaborate closely with data analysts to build robust deployments and data pipelines for business-critical machine learning models.
Implement data solutions for business stakeholders across different departments (O&M and non-O&M support groups).
Automate manual data integration and processing from disparate source systems.
Technical Expertise:

Provide technical expertise in data storage structures, data mining, and data cleansing to O&M & non-O&M support groups.
Collaborate with IT Network and Security teams on infrastructure provisioning and security of deployments.
Resolve assigned data-related incidents and service requests through current ITSM tools.
Recommend changes and updates to data source production systems.
Administration:

Assist Department Head in budget preparation, submission, monitoring, and execution of expenses.
Coordinate with Network and Security team for budget alignment and other cost impacts from IT operations.
Liaise with vendors and service providers for new/current data-related products and services in the market.
Develop Governance Framework (Policies, Standards, Roles) for data analytics and its implementation.

Conform to company policies, standards, procedures, and guidelines based on ISO standards.
Report Environmental, Occupational Health and Safety, and Information Security events/incidents or potential events.
Protect information assets from unauthorized access, disclosure, modification, destruction, or interference.
Maintain availability, confidentiality, and integrity of documents.
Competencies (Proficiency Level):

Experience in working in a power plant environment.
Knowledgeable in business processes and procedures.
Experience in implementing Extract - Transform Load (ETL) or Extract - Load - Transform (ELT) architectures.
Programming/Querying Skills - Ability to create/interpret scripts in Python, R, or SQL.
Experience with database schemas/structures.
Experience in cloud data warehouse development and deployment.
Experience with workflow orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow, Prefect, Dagster).
Experience working with APIs and API architectures (RESTful, SOAP).
DevOps experience (CI/CD pipelines, service observability).
Experience with IoT and Open Platform Communications (OPC) protocols (advantageous).
Data Visualization - Familiarity with tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Google Data Studio/Looker.
Experience:

Professional: At least 2 years of experience in data engineering for power plant O&M processes and/or non-O&M processes.
Education:

Bachelor’s degree in IT, Engineering, Math, Statistics, Physics, or related discipline/field, or equivalent work experience.
