Job Description
Preferably Licensed
Conducting thorough assessments of patients to determine their needs for intravenous therapy, including reviewing medical histories and vital signs.
Inserting and managing intravenous catheters or access devices, ensuring proper placement and functionality.
Administering prescribed medications, such as antibiotics, pain relievers, or chemotherapy drugs, via intravenous routes according to established protocols.
Monitoring and regulating fluid levels and electrolyte balances through IV fluids, especially in patients who are dehydrated or unable to take fluids orally.
Providing intravenous nutrition (total parenteral nutrition) to patients who are unable to eat or absorb nutrients through the digestive system.
Continuously monitoring patients during IV therapy for any adverse reactions, complications, or changes in condition, and taking appropriate action as necessary.
Maintaining accurate and detailed records of IV therapy sessions, including patient responses, medication doses, and vital signs.
Educating patients and their families about IV therapy procedures, potential side effects, and self-care measures. Providing emotional support and reassurance to patients undergoing IV therapy.
Adhering to all safety protocols, infection control measures, and regulatory standards related to IV therapy practices.
