Job Description

A Payroll Specialist is responsible for the efficient and accurate processing of payroll, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, and maintaining precise financial records. The role includes managing accounts receivable (AR) and accounts payable (AP), preparing Business Activity Statements (BAS), and utilizing accounting software such as Xero for various financial tasks. Additionally, the Payroll Officer will handle month-end journals and other related duties.

Key Responsibilities:
Payroll Processing: Accurately process payroll for all employees, ensuring timely payment and compliance with Australian labor laws and tax regulations.
Accounts Receivable (AR): Manage invoicing, payments, and collections to ensure timely receipt of funds.
Accounts Payable (AP): Process vendor invoices, prepare payment runs, and manage vendor relationships.
Business Activity Statements (BAS): Prepare and lodge BAS, ensuring compliance with ATO requirements.
Xero Management: Utilize Xero for payroll processing, financial reporting, and reconciliation of accounts.
Month-End Journals: Prepare and post month-end journals, including accruals, prepayments, and general ledger adjustments.
Reconciliations: Perform bank reconciliations and ensure all accounts are balanced.
Compliance and Reporting: Ensure compliance with all statutory requirements and prepare reports as needed for management.
Record Maintenance: Maintain accurate employee records, including leave balances, superannuation, and other entitlements.

Qualifications:
Education: A diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.

Experience:
Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in payroll processing within Australia.
Experience with accounts receivable (AR) and accounts payable (AP).
Proficiency in preparing and lodging Business Activity Statements (BAS).
Experience with month-end journal entries and reconciliations.

Technical Skills:
Advanced knowledge of Xero accounting software.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.

Knowledge:
Strong understanding of Australian payroll legislation, tax regulations, and superannuation requirements.
Familiarity with general accounting principles and practices.

Skills:
Excellent numerical and analytical skills.
High attention to detail and accuracy.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
