Job Description
The Attorney VI serves as the chief legal officer or legal expert in a bureau or office, providing authoritative legal advice, policy interpretation, and leadership in legal matters. The role involves managing complex legal issues, reviewing contracts and legislation, representing the agency in high-level legal proceedings, and supervising legal staff or lower-ranked attorneys.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Legal Advice and Opinions:
o Provide legal opinions and interpretations on laws, rules, and regulations affecting the agency.
o Advise top management on legal implications of policies and decisions.
2. Drafting and Review:
o Review and draft legal documents such as contracts, memoranda of agreement, administrative issuances, and proposed legislation.
o Ensure legal soundness and compliance of agency policies and actions.
3. Litigation and Representation:
o Represent the agency in high-level administrative, civil, or criminal cases.
o Coordinate with the Office of the Solicitor General and other legal bodies when necessary.
4. Investigation and Resolution:
o Lead or supervise the conduct of legal investigations and fact-finding inquiries.
o Participate in resolving complaints and disputes involving the agency.
5. Supervision and Mentoring:
o Supervise, mentor, and review the work of lower-level attorneys and legal staff.
o Ensure the efficient operation of the legal division or legal team.
6. Policy Development:
o Assist in the development of agency policies and regulations.
o Provide legal insights in strategic planning and policy formulation.
