Job Description
We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Design Engineer with experience in underground and Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) telecom projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating construction-ready designs for fiber optic networks, incorporating underground trenching, HDD routes, utility coordination, and permitting requirements. This role is critical in ensuring safe, efficient, and code-compliant network deployment.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop detailed engineering designs and construction drawings for fiber optic networks using underground and HDD methods.
Perform route analysis, field surveys, and utility coordination to identify optimal underground paths.
Create plan and profile drawings, bore logs, and splice diagrams for HDD and trenching routes.
Ensure compliance with local, state, and industry standards (e.g., NESC, NEC, city ordinances).
Coordinate with permitting authorities to produce permit-ready documents.
Work closely with GIS, construction, and project management teams to align designs with field conditions.
Prepare material take-offs, construction notes, and design documentation packages.
Support revisions based on redlines, as-built surveys, and field change requests.
Utilize CAD/GIS software (AutoCAD, MicroStation, QGIS, etc.) to produce and manage design files.
Assist in risk assessments related to underground utilities, soil conditions, and HDD feasibility.
