Job Description
Cost Engineer work closely with many other professionals including consultants, contractors, accountants, and operations personnel to provide the most accurate and comprehensive financial and budget analysis for their employers. Their duties includes:
- Prepare and maintain project budgets, including labor, materials, equipment and services
- Perform cost analysis, estimating expected cost for the project stakeholders.
- Provide detailed progress reports to project managers and stakeholders
- Perform risk management, identiying potential financial risks and providing mitigation strategies
- Prepare cost reports and pricing studies as required
- Analyse completed projects to compare estimated costs to actual costs and determine reasons for any discrepancies
- Provide consultation on planning, coordinator and cost control of projects
- Develop and implement cost tracking and reporting methodoligies
- Interact with project costs and provide cost control recommendations
- Validate cost data from various sources for consistency and accuracy
- Collaborate with procurement and contract management to manage cost and negotiate contracts.
Skills and Qualifications
- Proficiency in mathematics, statistics and data analysis
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
- Report writing and strategic planning skills
- Familiarity with analyzing requirement data to develop material and cost estimates for large projects
- Expertise with analytic tools, such as spreadsheets and databased managers
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents
- Excellent written communication and interpersonal skills
- Exceptional time management skills
Position Qualifications
- 4 years of experience in construction, engineering degree or equivalent.
- Ability to manamage multiple projects, prioritize effectively, and exercise flexibility as needed
- Working knowledge of computer system and software
- Good communication and interpersonal (tact, diplomacy, influence, etc) skills.
