Medical Coder Educator / Trainer (BPO)

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Creates, designs and performs coding education
2. Credentials or Certifications appropriate for patient type, ie AHIMA, AAPC
3. Proficient in training delivery to adult learners, considering cultural specificity of training class.
4. Successfully train coders for credentials or certifications appropriate for patient type, ie AHIMA, AAPC, with an average training pass rate
5. Communicates and resolves training issues for appropriate follow-up and resolution
6. Proficient in diagnosis coding guidelines, including facility-specific rules and regulations, Coding Clinics, and other relevant standards.
7. Ability to assign corresponding PCS codes and CPT codes as applicable
8. Working knowledge of the Inpatient Prospective Payment System (IPPS) and Outpatient Prospective Payment System (OPPS) as applicable.
9. Adept at comparing documentation, code, procedure, APC and/or DRG assignment for accuracy and completeness, and elevating concerns to the appropriate manager
10. Functional knowledge of facility EMR, encoder and other support software
11. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as required by the duties of the position
12. Ability to concentrate and accomplish tasks with explicit accuracy
13. Ability to use office equipment and automated systems/applications/software at an acceptable level of proficiency
14. Maintains and secure data and all individually identifiable personal information accessed through the client’s and/or ADEC’s systems to safeguard confidentiality of data.
15. Utilizes the appropriate system required for the program to gather information and answer program specific questions relevant to scope of work that will ensure accurate information dispensed or provided to the team being supported.
16. Participates in continuous learning business methodologies and programs in order to develop proficiency in scope of work.
17. Ensures compliance to company rules and regulations, which shall include but not limited to the Employee Code of Discipline, the policies on Quality Management System (QMS), Information Security Management System (ISMS), Environment Health & Safety (EHS), and Environmental Management System (EMS), Data Privacy Act (DPA); and other duties and responsibilities prescribed for all ADEC employees.
18. Ensures compliance of all Non-Conformity Corrective Action Preventive Action Concessions (NCAPACs) and all other audit findings within the prescribed period.
19. Reports security incidents and/or any identified security weaknesses.
20. Performs other tasks that may be assigned from time to time.

QUALIFICATUONS:
 Bachelor’s degree in health information management or related Allied Health discipline.
 Master’s degree is preferred
 Three to five years of experience performing medical record coding in acute care setting, and three years of experience in performing medical coder training.
 Skilled and advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and others as required.
 AHIMA CCS, RHIT, or RHIA, or AAPC Certification appropriate to patient type.
 AHIMA-Approved ICD-10-CM/PCS Trainer, AAPC Certified Instructor is preferred.
