Job Description
Database Migration & Conversion
Lead the migration of databases from non-SQL Server platforms (e.g., Oracle, MySQL, DB2) to Microsoft SQL Server using the Microsoft SQL Server Migration Assistant (SSMA).
Perform detailed database assessments to determine the best approach for migration and conversion, ensuring minimal downtime and data integrity.
Use SSMA to automate and streamline database migration tasks, such as schema and data conversions, while troubleshooting migration issues.
Database Optimization & Performance Tuning
Optimize databases post-migration, focusing on improving performance, query optimization, and ensuring the new environment is tuned for maximum efficiency.
Implement best practices for indexing, query execution plans, and database design to ensure a high-performing SQL Server environment.
Database Testing & Validation
Perform rigorous testing and validation of the migrated databases to ensure data accuracy, completeness, and consistency across platforms.
Identify and resolve any issues that arise during the migration process, providing solutions for data integrity and compatibility problems.
Client Engagement & Technical Support
Work closely with clients to understand their specific database requirements and provide technical guidance throughout the migration process.
Provide post-migration support, including troubleshooting, performance tuning, and optimization.
Create and deliver training materials for clients to help them understand the new SQL Server environment and how to use it effectively.
Documentation & Reporting
Document migration processes, issues encountered, and solutions implemented for internal knowledge sharing.
Generate and maintain migration reports for clients, detailing progress, any challenges, and solutions provided.
Continuous Learning & Process Improvement
Stay up-to-date with the latest versions of SSMA and SQL Server to take advantage of new features and improvements.
Continuously improve migration processes and tools to enhance efficiency and reduce errors in future migrations.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field .
At least 3 years of experience in database migration, preferably with SQL Server and SSMA tools
Strong experience with SQL Server, including database design, optimization, and troubleshooting .
In-depth knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server Migration Assistant (SSMA) and its capabilities for migrating databases from various platforms
Experience in working with non-SQL Server databases (e.g., Oracle, MySQL, DB2) and understanding their architecture and migration requirements
Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS) for database hosting and migration is a plus
Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to troubleshoot complex migration issues
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for engaging with clients and teams effectively
