Responsibilities
Write code: Programmers write code in various languages, such as C++ and Java. They also source code from open code libraries.
Test code: Programmers test code to ensure that it produces the expected results. They also identify and correct coding errors.
Maintain code: Programmers maintain existing programs by making modifications as needed.
Debug code: Programmers debug code to fix faults and glitches.
Troubleshoot: Programmers troubleshoot systems and software to identify and communicate technical problems.
Develop user interfaces: Programmers develop user interfaces based on design parameters.
Develop security systems: Programmers develop security systems and procedures to protect users and programs.
Document software: Programmers prepare reports, manuals, and other documentation on the status, operation, and maintenance of software.
Train users: Programmers train new users to use updated programs or hardware.
