Electrician

General tasks.

An Electrician performs a variety of tasks, including executing electrical wiring plans, installing fixtures and equipment, troubleshooting malfunctions, and repairing electrical appliances. They work with different electrical systems, tools, and safety regulations to ensure the efficient and safe distribution of electricity. Their responsibilities also include conducting inspections, replacing old wiring, and performing maintenance tasks to prevent system breakdowns and maximize electrical usability.

• Electricians perform a variety of installation, troubleshooting and repair tasks on electrical systems. The duties and responsibilities may vary depending on the scope of the role, but they often include:
• Understanding and applying blueprints and technical diagrams
• Using various devices, including ammeters, voltmeters, thermal scanners and cable testers, as well as hand and power tools
• Installing or replacing wiring, lighting, electrical controls, breakers and other electrical devices
• Inspecting and maintaining electrical systems in homes and businesses
• Adhering to state and local building regulations Completing work orders on time
• Documenting the work completed and materials used
• Working with other electricians, general contractors, architects and other team members

Qualifications or skills the person must have.
• Proven experience as an electrician
• Experience in industrial and/or commercial electrical systems
• Demonstrable ability to use electrical and hand tools (e.g. wire strippers, voltmeter etc.) and electrical drawings and blueprints
• Thorough knowledge of safety procedures and legal regulations and guidelines
• Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving ability
• Excellent physical condition and flexibility to work long shifts and overnight
• Diploma in relevant vocational training or successfully completed apprenticeship as an electrician
• Valid license to practice profession is advantage
