Job Description
Preoperative:
• Assess patients' medical history and prepare them for surgery.
• Educate patients about procedures and address concerns.
• Coordinate with the surgical team and ensure OR readiness.
• Document preoperative assessments accurately.
Intraoperative:
• Assist surgical team by maintaining sterile fields and passing instruments.
• Monitor patients' vital signs and anesthesia administration.
• Follow infection control protocols and ensure safety.
• Communicate effectively with the surgical team.
Postoperative:
• Monitor patients in recovery and assess vital signs.
• Provide postoperative instructions and discharge planning.
• Document postoperative status and progress.
• Offer emotional support to patients and families
Requirements:
Education: Completion of a nursing program (ADN or BSN).
Licensure: Obtain RN license by passing NCLEX-RN exam.
Experience: Some employers prefer perioperative nursing experience.
Certification: Consider obtaining CNOR credential.
Continuing Education: Stay updated on best practices.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in OR procedures and sterile techniques.
Interpersonal Skills: Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for long periods and assist with patient care.
