Job Description

Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or a related field. Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Safety Professional, OSHA certifications) are typically required or preferred.
Previous experience in maritime or shipyard safety management, with a strong understanding of shipyard operations, hazards, and regulatory requirements.
Proficiency in shipyard safety practices, maritime regulations (e.g., USCG regulations), hazard identification, risk assessment methodologies, and accident investigation techniques.
Strong leadership qualities, teamwork, and the ability to influence and collaborate effectively with shipyard management, workers, subcontractors, and regulatory authorities.
Create and implement safety policies and procedures specific to shipyard operations, ensuring compliance with local, state, federal regulations, and industry standards (e.g., OSHA, Coast Guard).
Conduct comprehensive safety training programs for shipyard personnel, covering topics such as confined space entry, fall protection, electrical safety, hot work, hazardous material handling, and emergency response procedures.
Perform regular inspections of shipyard facilities, docks, vessels, and equipment to identify potential hazards, unsafe conditions, and compliance with safety regulations.
Conduct safety audits and assessments to evaluate the effectiveness of safety programs, procedures, and practices. Prepare detailed reports outlining findings, observations, and recommendations for corrective actions.
Lead investigations into accidents, incidents, near misses, injuries, and property damage. Determine root causes and contributing factors, and develop corrective action plans to prevent recurrence.
Develop and implement emergency response plans specific to shipyard operations, including fire emergencies, chemical spills, and medical emergencies. Conduct drills and exercises to evaluate emergency response readiness.
