Job description
The Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Officer will be responsible for supporting, developing and overseeing ESG policies and procedures of ARQ and of portfolio companies. The incumbent will provide technical expertise on key issues related to ESG assessment, sustainability risks and compliance with ESG requirements of funds managed by ARQ. This will primarily involve assessing the design, implementation and supervision of portfolio companies’ environmental and social management systems (ESMS) policies taking into consideration best industry practices and standards.

Job Responsibilities

Take the lead in the design, development, and evolution of the ESG strategies and guidance documents for ARQ
Assessing ESMS process of portfolio companies inline with relevant standards and requirements. Identify weaknesses, help in categorization of E&S risks, etc.
Drawing up implementable E&S action plans for implementation by the borrowers. Guide borrowers on management of complex E&S risks. This could involve capacity building of borrowers, providing, and guiding them through implementation of E&S corrective action plans.
The candidate is expected to provide technical support advice on complex E&S issues such as local licensing, supply chain, land acquisition, indigenous peoples, and biodiversity, metrics, etc.
The candidate is expected to identify key risks, develop E&S action plans and recommend engagement of specialists when required.
Oversee the ESMS data collection process, ensuring that data is timely and accurate. Prepare annual ESMS reports and responses to ESG information requests from external stakeholders such as investors and regulators.
Enhance and oversee social and environmental impact measurements processes and reports alongside E&S processes, and conform information with IRIS+ and/or other metrics.
Continuously improve the ESMS reporting internal control environment to ensure consistent, accurate and timely ESMS information as well as auditable and efficient reporting processes.
Identify, advise on and implement new ESMS reporting and disclosure practices, based on a deep understanding of requirements from regulators, investors/lenders, etc.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and above, with professional qualifications in ESG-related areas.
Relevant experience of 3-5 years.
Good knowledge of international and local ESG standards and metrics related to E&S issues in investment projects and preferably, direct experience in implementing IFC Performance Standards, ILO standards, local and international Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) standards, exclusion lists, grievance mechanisms, etc.
